A sea day

 

EN - I am organizing some weekends at the seaside resorts, so I can't help but feel that immense, pleasant, delighted sense of freedom and holiday that a sea day, a sunset at the beach and a breathtaking starry sky are able to offer.

IT - Sto iniziando ad organizzare qualche week end al mare, così non posso fare a meno di farmi pervadere da quell'immenso, piacevole, beato senso di libertà e vacanza che una giornata di mare, un tramonto sulla spiaggia e un cielo stellato mozzafiato riescono a dare.

Like a crown on the head

EN - This hairstyle has always fascinated me overwhelmingly because it encloses elegance and practicalness at the same time. It was the hairstyle par excellence (with numerous versions) of the women until the end of the 19th century. Today it is a must for the parties requiring a formal dress and it is gaining growing popularity as hairstyle for the day.

IT - Questa pettinatura ha da sempre esercitato su di me un fascino irresistibile, perché racchiude in sé eleganza e praticità. È stata la pettinatura per eccellenza (con molteplici varianti) delle donne fino alla fine del 1800, mentre oggi è un must per le feste in abito scuro e acquista popolarità crescente come pettinatura da giorno.

EN - I have been wanting to learn how to do a chignon and finally I succeeded in it! After a lot of videos watched on YouTube (keywords: classical ballet bun), I am now able to do a simple and clean chignon, without visible hair accessories that would ruin the result. Essentially a pony tail twisted around itself and fixed by some hairpins. Since about one month I have been using this hairstyle very often and it gives me a tidy appearance at work and a sophisticated one in the free time. I learnt how much important is, as first step, a well-done pony tail; if the pony tail is not too tight and if the hairpins are not inserted too strongly (but also not too softly), the bun can last even ten hours without troubles nor annoyances and it allows to forget literally the hair. A very good chignon needs only four (!) hairpins (inserted in the four "cardinal points" of the bun). The secret of the success lies not only in technique, but also in the ingredients: the U-shaped hairpins (not the rigid ones) are extraordinary (an experienced saleswoman of the Galeries Lafayette recommended them to me). Lastly I observed how resistant is a chignon (in fact it is used by ballerinas, rhythmic gymnasts and ice skaters, etc).

IT - Desideravo tanto imparare a farlo e finalmente ci sono riuscita! Dopo decine di video guardati su YouTube (parole chiave: classical ballet bun) adesso sono in grado di farmi uno chignon semplice, pulito, senza elastici né fermagli visibili a rovinarne l'effetto. Essenzialmente una coda di cavallo attorcigliata su se stessa e fermata da qualche forcina. Da circa un mese questa pettinatura mi accompagna spessissimo, dandomi un aspetto ordinato in ufficio e sofisticato nel tempo libero. Ho imparato quanto sia importante, come base, una coda di cavallo fatta bene; se la coda non è troppo stretta e se le forcine non sono infilate troppo vigorosamente (ma neanche troppo delicatamente), lo chignon dura anche dieci ore, senza dare fastidio e permettendo di scordarsi dei propri capelli. Quando si azzecca lo chignon, servono solo quattro (!) forcine (messe nei quattro "punti cardinali" dello chignon). Il segreto del successo risiede, oltre che nella tecnica, anche negli ingredienti: straordinarie le forcine ad U non rigide (consigliatemi da un'esperta commessa de Lafayette). Infine ho constatato quanto sia resistente lo chignon (infatti è utilizzato da ballerine di danza classica, ginnaste ritmiche, pattinatrici su ghiaccio, ecc.).

EN - What was absolutely inconceivable is now not only feasible, but even on the cutting edge. Season by season the fashion has the power to revolutionize schemes, rules, philosophies, mores. Spring/summer 2011 is characterized by this ground-breaking fad of the colour blocking, i.e. wearing many bright colours all together.

IT - Ciò che era assolutamente inconcepibile fino a qualche mese fa è diventato ora non solo fattibile, anzi, tremendamente all'avanguardia. Potere della moda, capace di rivoluzionare schemi, regole, filosofie e costumi da una stagione all'altra. La primavera/estate 2011 è caratterizzata da questa tendenza innovativa chiamata colour blocking, ovvero indossare insieme più colori forti.

EN - Every mathematical, physical or artistic intuition is always supported by a theory. Let's have a look to some definitions relating to the colours universe, from the point of view of the parameter of the hue.

• The primary colours are pure colours, not obtainable mixing other colours. They are three and in the colour wheel they are positioned at the maximum distance one from each other, that is 120 degrees. They are: 
• yellow
• red
• blue

• The secondary colours are given by the sum of two primary colours in equal proportions. They are three: 
• green (blue +yellow)
• violet (blue + red)
• orange (red + yellow)

• The tertiary colours are given by the sum of two primary colours in unequal proportions. Therefore we obtain additional graduations of green, violet and orange.

• The complementary colours are pairs of colours given by a primary colour and the secondary colour sum of the other two. In the colour wheel they are positioned at 180 degrees, at the maximum distance one from the other. Two complementary colours together give an effect of maximum contrast, because the two colours gain chromatic intensity enhancing their reciprocal lightness. The three pairs of complementary colours are (with different graduations according to the mixing ratio):
• yellow (primary colour) and violet (secondary colour sum of the other two primary colours red and blue)
• red (primary colour) and green (secondary colour sum of the other two primary colours blue and yellow)
• blue (primary colour) and orange (secondary colour sum of the other two primary colours red and yellow)

• The analogous colours are colours that are adjacent to each other on the colour wheel, with a primary colour in common (e.g. blue, azure-blue and green that have the blue in common; red, pink and violet that have the red in common). The combination of these colours gives an harmonious effect, unlike the combination of two complementary colours.

• The neutral colours are black and white, with grey as secondary colour.

IT - Ogni intuizione - matematica, fisica o artistica - è sempre sostenuta da una teoria. Vediamo dunque qualche definizione riguardante l'universo dei colori, dal punto di vista del parametro della tonalità.

• I colori primari sono colori puri non ottenibili tramite mescolamento di altri colori. Sono tre e nella ruota dei colori sono posizionati ognuno alla massima distanza dall'altro, cioè a 120 gradi. Essi sono: 
• giallo
• rosso
• blu 

• I colori secondari sono dati dalla somma di due colori primari in proporzioni uguali. Essi sono tre:
• verde (blu + giallo)
• viola (blu + rosso)
• arancione (rosso + giallo)

• I colori terziari sono dati dalla somma di due colori primari in proporzioni disuguali; si ottengono così diverse tonalità di verde, viola ed arancione.

• I colori complementari sono una coppia di colori formata da un colore primario e il colore secondario somma degli altri due. Nella ruota dei colori si trovano a 180 gradi, alla massima distanza l'uno dall'altro. Accostando due colori complementari si ottiene un effetto di massimo contrasto perché i due colori acquistano forza cromatica rafforzando reciprocamente la loro luminosità. Le tre coppie di colori complementari sono (con diverse tonalità ottenibili a seconda delle proporzioni di mescolamento): 
• giallo (primario) e viola (secondario somma degli altri due primari rosso e blu)
• rosso (primario) e verde (secondario somma degli altri due primari blu e giallo)
• blu (primario) ed arancione (secondario somma degli altri due primari rosso e giallo). 

• I colori analoghi sono colori adiacenti nella ruota dei colori, aventi in comune un colore primario (ad esempio blu, azzurro e verde che contengono tutti il blu; rosso, rosa e viola che hanno in comune il rosso). Sono dunque colori strettamente correlati che, messi insieme, al contrario dell'accostamento di due colori complementari, danno una sensazione di armonia.

• I  colori neutri sono il bianco e il nero, con il grigio come colore secondario.

EN - Analysing the chromatic combinations proposed by Gucci, Jil Sander, Sportmax and Alexandre Herchcovitch, it is possible to extrapolate some general schemes:

• 1 secondary colour + 2 tertiary colours adjacent to the complementary of that secondary colour

• example 1 (Gucci, image 7): orange + blue-violet + blue-green  _________

• example 2 (Jil Sander, image 4):  green + red-violet + red-orange  _________

• 3 analogous colours

• example 3 (Jil Sander, image 1): red-orange + red-violet + orange  _________

• example 4 (Gucci, image 8): blue-green + turquoise + blue-violet  _________

My favourite combinations?

• 2 complementary colours + 1 adjacent to one of the two

• example 5: blue + orange + blue-violet  _________

• black + 2 analogous colours

• example 6: (like Gucci, image 10): black + turquoise + blue-green  _________

• example 7 (similar to Sportmax, images 11 and 12): black + red-violet + orange  _________

Few precautions before experimenting the colour blocks:
- the different fabrics must be as similar and homogeneous as possible to do not steal the show from the protagonist colours;
- wear no more than three colours (accessories included);
- each fabrics should be monochromatic: patterned fabrics are banned!

IT - Analizzando gli accostamenti proposti da Gucci, Jil Sander, Sportmax e Alexandre Herchcovitch, è possibile estrapolare alcuni schemi ricorrenti:

• 1 secondario + i 2 terziari adiacenti al complementare del secondario

• esempio 7 (simile a Sportmax, immagini 11 e 12): nero + red-violet + orange  _________

Alcuni accorgimenti prima di lanciarsi in queste sperimentazioni:

- i tessuti devono essere il più possibile simili ed omogenei tra di loro per non rubare la scena ai colori protagonosti;
- indossare non più di tre colori (accessori inclusi);

-  i colori devono essere a tinta unita: bandite le fantasie!
